Sunday Supper... Tomato and Whipped Feta Brushcetta...and a great sale

Had a leisurely Saturday morning watching the cooking channel ...

Really enjoyed the Barefoot Contessa in Napa segment...

She and her husband Geoffrey have rented a home in Napa ...and it is fabulous. I could move right in...the gardens were absolutely divine...anyway, I'm all over her recipe for bruschetta with creamed feta...

Was very disappointed that I couldn't find it online...but I searched for a similar recipe...and added my own twist to make it more similar to the Barefoot Contessas'

Chopped fresh tomatoes...yellow and red

1 medium garlic clove, minced

2 tablespoons red wine vinegar

2 tablespoons sugar

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes

table salt

8 ounces feta cheese, crumbled

2 teaspoons juice from 1 lemon

2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

ground black pepper

1 baugette

Combine tomatoes, garlic, vinegar, sugar, pepper flakes, and 1/4 teaspoon salt in a medium bowl.

Process feta, lemon juice, olive oil, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper in a food processor until smooth, about 10 seconds, scraping down bowl with spatula once during processing.

Divide feta mixture among toasts and spread to edges. Using fork, lift tomatoes from vinegar mixture and place on toast. Drizzle with olive oil and serve.

That's it for Sunday Supper around here.. just adding a nice glass of wine....

Round Top Re-Cap

We always describe ourselves as Sisters, best friends, and business partners who are passionate about what we do.  Our design aesthetic combines old and new... we search high and low for every single piece we bring into our client's home.

Our recent trip to Round Top was a for the store and our projects is our very favorite thing to do...but searching for the vintage, antique or unique is different from just popping in and out of local Retail stores is very hard work.

It rained 3 out of the 9 days we were gone...we were shopping miles and miles of outdoor venues...yet we trudged on...

When it wasn't raining it was extremely hot and humid...we loaded a truck one night till well after dark ... the mosquitoes almost carried us away...

Kitchen and Breakfast Room Lighting

We are finding it much easier to blog more regularly if we blog about the things that we are working on...

We get double duty out of our research...

Lighting is a constant search, so this will be the first of many posts focusing on different aspects of lighting...

We can't stress enough the importance of good lighting..

first for function... and equally as important for aesthetics...

Scale is everything...quality means a lot, and unique is what makes the difference in the end...

It saddens us to see how many nice homes are filled with builder chosen fixtures that were all ordered at once from a lighting supplier. The salesman has taken a lighting list ... checked off a budget and chosen the fixtures... Ugh!

Today we are focusing on kitchens...this can involve more than one fixture...normally an island...and more than likely open to a casual dining area...

Here's some inspiration we found ...let's see what you think?

We're sure you've seen several of these images before...but isn't it interesting to focus merely on the lighting?...

In the few instances where there is the ideal spot ...sconces are incredible in a kitchen...a little more unexpected in this room of the house...

We're a big fan of  lanterns...and really love a beautiful chandelier...the two go so well together.

One of our very favorite light fixtures ever...

is hanging over the breakfast table in the last image from At Home in Arkansas...this is one of our projects, and we now carry the chandelier in our online store.

It also comes in a large round and smaller sizes as well...but this 6 arm beauty is truly amazing. Combining different fixtures over the island and casual dining table in open floor plans can be a challenge...this piece mixes well with everything...lanterns, pendants or an iron chandelier with candles.
