The final Gadsden post… We are gonna be looking at the Formal Dining, Master Suite and Powder Bath…Read More
She is a single woman and a pure delight. She has a wonderful home and we are thrilled to have a wonderful new friend. She had been asked by AY Magazine if they could photograph her home after seeing her beautiful porches and landscaping.
These pictures are from the magazine...
Providence was hired to completely redo the living room...fabric for barstools in the kitchen and a rug...we redid the wine armoire...and a few tweaks in the Master Bath, Foyer and Piano Room.
We were on a tight deadline because the magazine shoot had already been set.
It was a really fun project!
Let's look at some before and afters...
Our clients goal was to update and "lighten things up". We opted for light neutrals and a splash of color in the pillows and accessories that can easily be changed with the seasons or when she is ready for a change.
The dark kaki/gold walls were re-painted Benjamin Moore Niveous OC-8.
It looks much darker in this sample than it actually is. The walls are a beautiful rich creamy white...and appear very light, as you will be able to see in the pictures.
Phinality Designs was hired to paint several pieces of decor as well as the mantel.
They did an awesome job.
In the foyer a console was updated with paint and a change of accessories.
What a HUGE difference!
There is a wonderful rustic cabinet in a hallway off the kitchen that serves as wine storage. As things happen it had become a catch all place for lots of little random knick knacks and held very little wine. We took everything out and sent our client wine shopping. (Tough duty, huh?) Now the cabinet is filled with here favorite wines and beautiful wine glasses. Also made some changes on top of the cabinet.
Much cleaner and very functional too.
The Living Room...Just makes us sigh when we enter it now...It's one of our favorite rooms we have ever done. It feels so good!
Let's look at several BEFORE pictures...
The very first thing we said before we even starting planning the design is we have to get rid of the silk tree and lots of other silk greens that were tucked into bookshelves and bowls everywhere. We've all had the silk ficus trees and ivy and it feels really good to throw it out. Our client definitely agrees.
More Before images taken at different angles...
The mantel transformation is truly incredible...Aric textured the entire thing ...slate surround included. It now looks like beautiful cast stone. Gorgeous.
You will notice we had the bench painted and had a new cushion and bolster pillows made. Doesn't look rustic anymore. And that fireplace...Wow!
Given the chance when we design a room for clients we will tweek just about everything. Like this urn and pedestal...It wasn't bad before but the new finish is soooo much better. Very soft and one of our favorite elements in the room. Particularly with the sticks gone and the fabulous antlers hung on the wall above. And don't you love that you can now see into the beautiful piano room with the big silk tree gone?
In order to really lighten up the design we replaced all of the rugs. The dark Oriental rug was replaced with a custom sisal that also fits the furniture arrangement better and other smaller rugs were replaced with pale Oushaks.
The biggest change on the window wall was the addition of the cane chair that was upstairs before with new fabrics and pillow and a recovered ottoman... the addition of beautiful window treatments made a dramatic change to the room.
We re-upholstered the little bench by the window in a soft leather. You'll notice that we have added interest by varying the textures in the room. We've used velvet, linen, leather and tone on tone fabrics. Sister is amazing when it comes to selecting fabrics.
We were thrilled when our client chose vibrant pink for her accent color. It just sings in this room and we plan to add some deep purple in with the pink for a warm change in the Fall.
One of the reasons our client hired us is that we share a love for unique old architectural items. The addition of some of these wonderful finds from our inventory really complete this design. The space feels lighter and fresher but still like it has developed over time. There is nothing trendy about this room.
Phinality Design mounted this old fragment just the way it was found on an arched mahogany panel that they distressed and painted in a weathered finish. This is definitely one of my favorite things...
Before and After of the bookshelves...Notice how clutter free they are. We focused on just a few over sized wonderful objects.
Just love the vintage candelabra lamp.
The addition of pieces like these keep your home unique and personal.
Wonderful old jar we found...adds a wonderful crusty layer...
Before and After...Ottoman to Coffee Table...
Love, love this burled wood coffee table we found along with the chairs and sofa at Cobblestone and Vine...
Absolutely love the new Hickory sofa and beautiful pillows...The long pillow in the center is hand painted velvet...and the pink floral pillows at the ends are icing on the cake.
Also notice that the glass top elephant table is gone and replaced with a garden stool that the client was using in the Master Bath.
The piano room that adjoins the living room is fabulous. The only changes made were raising some vases on acrylic bases and changing a few accessories in the glass front shelves.
We made a few changes in the Master bath...painted the walls the Benjamin Moore nieveous and had a rustic mirror painted with a lighter finish...
Some closing thoughts...
This was such a fun project. As I said earlier this client (and now friend) is a delight to work with. We definitely worked together on this project. She has very good taste and a great eye. She no longer works but specialized in spacial planning for interior design. Her gardens and landscape are incredible. She loves her home and entertains friends often. She could have set out to do this project alone but she is smarter than that. She realizes the value that good decorators and designers bring to the table. She was a sponge soaking up new ideas and never tried to control the project in any way. As each new layer of the design was added she was completely giddy with excitement. We all were. We were on the same page from the very start...and we've got more plans...
Our client recently did some painting and installed open shelving in her kitchen.
Now we want to lighten up this space as well. We're planning to replace the black granite with a beautiful honed quartzite...
We're going to get creative with the area behind the stove...lots of details to hammer out.
So there will definitely be more to see of this fabulous home in the future.
But for now...
It's your turn. Let's talk!
